If you’re an OFW single mom, can I ask you something?
Have you ever caught yourself thinking,
“As long as I keep my job, we’ll be okay.”
I used to believe that too.
For years, my monthly salary carried almost everything-our daily expenses,
my son’s needs, family responsibilities, and my hopes for the future.
The problem?
It was my only source of income.
I didn't realize how risky that was until much later.
Looking back, these are the lessons I wish I had learned while I was still working abroad:
✦ One salary is not a backup plan.
✦ A good job can still disappear unexpectedly.
✦ Learning one new skill today can open doors tomorrow.
✦ A small second income is better than no second income at all.
✦ Preparing early is easier than rebuilding later.
Notice that none of these require becoming rich overnight.
They simply require starting.
Maybe that’s learning a digital skill.
Maybe it’s selling digital products.
Maybe it’s building a small rental business.
Maybe it’s something completely different.
The goal isn’t to replace your OFW income tomorrow.

North Star PH is where I share honest stories about rebuilding, creating additional income streams, and preparing for the future-one coffee conversation at a time.
